The more than 3,800 students represent a 4% increase over fall 2022 enrollment, according to census data that was recorded by the 山ּ today.

“The numbers don’t lie; students are embracing UTEP for its academic excellence and exceptional value,” said UTEP President Heather Wilson.

Overall enrollment at the 山ּ has also grown some 2% from last year to more than 24,300 students.

"UTEP is doing more than ever to meet students where they are," said Amanda Vasquez, Ph.D., vice president for enrollment services who holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the 山ּ. "I know how UTEP enables successful careers because that is my personal story. We're working to make sure these opportunities are available to as many students as possible."

UTEP was recently ranked No.1 in Texas for social mobility, based on college rankings released by the Wall Street Journal. The journal ranks colleges by how much they help lower-income students secure high-paying jobs while minimizing the cost of attendance.

The 山ּ’s average tuition costs for full-time, in-state beginning undergraduates, before aid, is $9,744 – 5% lower than the Texas average for four-year public universities. The average first-year student who qualifies for grants and scholarships receives $8,915, and the average out-of-pocket cost of tuition, after aid, is around $800 per year for those students. Additionally, the 山ּ recently announced it will not increase tuition or mandatory fees for the next two academic years – 2023-24 and 2024-25.

The top five most popular programs chosen by incoming UTEP students this fall are nursing, psychology, computer science, criminal justice and biological sciences.
